Lielahti, Kämmenniemi, Hervanta, Vesilahti… Scouring the Villages for Ideas with Simo Frangén

What is your Capital of Culture like? Which stories of Tampere should be included in the bid for European Capital of Culture? What kind of culture events would you like to see, if you didn’t have to worry about the funding?

These are some of the questions waiting to be answered in the ‘villages’ of Tampere. On Tuesday, October 8th, Simo Frangén hosted the Lielahti ‘preparty’ at the Library of Lielahti, where a small but well-versed band of participants contributed to the brainstorming for the Capital of Culture bid.

And the events don’t end there. On Tuesday, October 15th, Simo and the Capital of Culture bid team visit Kämmenniemi. On Thursday, October 17th, it is Hervanta’s turn (Hervanta Trio, Insinöörinkatu 38). Both events begin at 5 p.m. and coffee is served from 4.30 p.m. Welcome!

And what did the Lielahti event yield? At least two large sheets full of valuable thoughts. In the photo above, Simo is presenting the papers to the camera.

What can be revealed is that at least two very promising programme ideas were recorded at the event. This is an encouraging start.

The visits aren’t limited to the suburbs of Tampere. On Saturday, October 12th, the team will visit Vesilahti for the municipality’s first ever Lanttujaiset (“Rutabaga Party”)! There will be a presentation by the Capital of Culture project at 3 p.m. For more information, see the Visit Vesilahti web page.
