For me, Tampere is a cultural city, where even bigger dreams can come through: in the auditoriums, playing fields or the big stages of theatres!
Tampere Worker’s Theatre and the production team of the Billy Elliot musical have given me an opportunity to learn how to work in a theatre and a chance to perform on a big stage, supported by immensely talented professionals.
Tampere is a small enough city for a regular boy like me to have an opportunity like this, but also big enough to have a chance to make superb theatre like Billy Elliot and attract big audiences.
Tampere is an ice hockey city and lot of the youngsters play for the local teams Tappara and Ilves. But if you’re not into hockey, you can get far in lots of other fields of sports and culture. My choices were dance and singing for instance in the boy choir Pirkanpojat. The legendary boy choir from Tampere will be 50 years next year and is so lit (as in, on form)!
I’m only 12 years old, but I can already picture my future in Tampere in TYK, the theatre secondary school, conservatoire and Näty, a degree programme in theatre arts. So even in the future I don’t have to leave Tampere.
Ilmari Kujansuu plays Michael in Billy Elliot and is an actor and in schoolgoer.
